# Overview

Hardware wallets (cold wallets) are the most secure types of wallets anyone in the NFT and crypto space has to safeguard their assets offline.

These USB-shaped devices plug directly into your computer and are compatible with most operating systems out there today.

As with anything physical, it goes without saying that should you lose your hardware wallet your funds will be lost with it, so take care to store it in a safe place when not in use.

### Key Takeaways For Creators and Collectors

\
Each hardware wallet has its own price point and additional functionality built onto the device that can benefit you directly by being able to:

* **Safely store your assets offline** as opposed to keeping your holdings in a centralized exchange or hot wallet online that may be compromised
* **Access/view assets at any time** with the use of a compatible mobile app
* **Hold multiple cryptocurrencies in your wallet** at the same time
* **Transaction verification for every single transaction** with your cold wallet adds another layer of security

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://monet-society.gitbook.io/crypto-101/hardware-wallets/overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
